A Planning Commission’s primary duty is to plan. The Planning Commission is a body, typically made up of volunteer members of the community, who are appointed by the Mayor to serve as an advisory group to the municipality’s legislative body on issues and policies related to planning, land use regulations, and community development. A Planning Commissioner generally serves a term lasting between 2-4 years, and can be reappointed for additional terms depending on the community.
Special Note: The Office of the Property Rights Ombudsman has provided funding for this training program from the 1% surcharge on all building permits in the State of Utah.

Basic training; not technical and riddled with exceptions. This training would be good for people running for local public office to see as well as people who are nominated to planning commissions. It would also be good for government employees who compile and provide information to those bodies, so everyone understands the importance of thorough and correct information prior to any discussion.
